From one teacher to another
Appeasement is the policy that gets mocked in hindsight and never gets taught as the reasonable-sounding choice it was at the time, so that's the angle I took. A country exhausted from the last war, genuinely trying to avoid another one, kept giving ground to stop a bigger fight, and it didn't work. Getting students to see why that looked defensible in the moment, not just wrong looking back, is the actual skill this lesson is after.
It opens the World War II unit, so it's carrying the weight of explaining how the war most students think they already know actually started.
You get the guided notes locked to the slides, the activity's answer key, and both assessments running as self-grading Google Forms, plus a teacher guide for the pacing.
