From one teacher to another
Closing out a war is its own kind of hard to teach, because by this point in the unit students want the ending and not another set of dates. This lesson gives them that: how the different fronts collapsed toward the same outcome, the decisions that ended the fighting, and what it actually meant for a world that had been fighting for years to finally stop.
It's the last stop in the World War II unit before the class turns to the Cold War that grows directly out of it, so I built the closing section to point forward as much as it looks back.
