From one teacher to another
Decolonization in Africa is easy to compress into a single sentence, empires left, and that's exactly the version I didn't want to teach. This lesson slows that down: the process looked different country to country, colonial powers didn't leave the same way twice, and the years right after independence were their own set of hard questions, not just a finish line.
It's part of the final unit of the course, sitting alongside the other decolonization and modern-world lessons, and it's built to work whether a class has time for the whole set or just this one.
I built guided notes to run alongside the slides, gave the activity a full answer key, and made both the quiz and exit ticket self-grading through Google Forms, teacher guide included.
