From one teacher to another
The space race is the Cold War lesson that finally gets the kids who've checked out for the last few units, because it's the one where the competition plays out in something other than troops and treaties. This lesson keeps the frame though: every launch is a Cold War move first and a science story second, and I built it to keep students tracking the competition instead of drifting into a general space-history lesson.
It's part of the Cold War unit, meant to run as a change of pace between the harder military and political lessons around it.
A teacher guide backs the slides and their guided notes, the activity's answer key is included, and the quiz and exit ticket already grade themselves through Google Forms.
